Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Distant learning has been very difficult for many of my students. Everyone is struggling right now, We are in uncharted territory right now. Teachers are scrambling to become innovators when it comes to teaching.
I teach small groups and works with students who have significant deficiencies in their reading skills.
The biggest obstacle that students have during online learning is that they all do not have internet access. Many students' needs are not being met because they do not have the internet or the necessary resources they need to learn. We have an opportunity to build relationships with our students and provide a venue for creativity.
My Project
We have an opportunity to open new doors to their learning and introduce new things to them, or just enjoy bring a smile to their face in these troubling times. This is a new experience for all of us and reaching out to our students in new ways is one of the best things we can do.
I have ordered a number of Garfield comic books that I will share with my students.
Before we left school, I had one three Garfield books that all the students wanted them. If this project gets funded, I plan on giving a book to each of my students and will replicate this project until I have enough books to provide four books per student at varying reading levels. The goal of this project is to provide engaging books that are at students' reading level to keep them reading while at home.
