This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Global warming and increasingly volatile weather conditions signal a change in our global habitats. Our students have a front row seat to the changing environment. Learning how to grow fruits and vegetables is a fantastic start to positively affecting the environment from inside our own little classroom. My students don't have a clear understanding of the work and resources that go into putting food on their tables. This hydroponics system will teach them not only how traiditional gardens work, but also feasible alternatives for how inner-city gardens can be grown.

Imagine my students growing their own salad bar inside our second-floor classroom!

The Gardyn system will also allow them to incorporate data collection and analysis to build their math skills in practical and exciting ways. The students will explore healthy eating and recipes and be little gardeners in no time and enjoying home-grown eco-friendly salads in the classroom!
