This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school needs help expanding our garden. We want to use all the space we have to grow as many vegetables as we can for our school lunches. Adding new metal beds is an affordable way to add to our garden. We have teamed up with Farm to Fork to put what we grow on our kids' lunch trays and get them exposed to new foods. The children get a full circle experience from starting seeds, taking care of the plants, and picking them for the lunch program. Kids come and ask for snacks constantly and while we have vegetables growing in our garden it is so nice to offer them fresh veggies when we can. The children love our gardens which in return pushes me to do all I can to grow more. With this DonorsChoose project, we will add 10 new raised beds and 2 trellises, giving us much more room to grow and lots of ways to get our students involved with the garden on rainy days. While we wait for spring we can spend our time putting the beds and trellis together and getting the garden ready. Please consider donating to the school gardens. Our students will appreciate your donation. We are a Title I school and would not be able to do anything without the support of DonorsChoose.
