Students in my room range from special needs to gifted within the walls of the same classroom. Our school's free and reduced lunch percentages were high enough that the school is now a "no-cost" school for breakfast and lunch. Many students come from low-income families and will only gain these experiences within the classroom.
Many of my students have not yet discovered the magic of education!
Students often forget that we can read and write because it is fun! My students rarely see the magic in a math problem just waiting to be solved!
Many of my students need to move around in order to learn in their best environment. Often, these students have spent time in classrooms in which they are constantly told to "sit down and be quiet." I want them to experience a classroom in which they can move around, get excited about what we are learning, and experience it together.
My Project
These materials will be key to getting students excited about learning our content. By adding a few dry erase squares, or numbers to correlate with review questions, students will be more involved in their own learning than they ever have been in the past. My students currently play games when we have indoor recess on cold, rainy days and they love it. I want to bring that excitement into our instructional day with games like these. I will place numbers on the bottom of Don't Break the Ice cubes and have students answer questions. Correct review answers will give students a chance to pick a Bean Boozled bean for me to "enjoy", or maybe that would allow them to spin the Pie Face crank to pie me in the face! The possibilities are endless with these games bringing excitement into our classroom!
