My Project

Third grade reading is no small feat. Students are transitioning from “learning to read” to “reading to learn” and during this big jump in expectations, the stakes are so high with state testing taking place three times a year and district testing scheduled even more than that…all of this is just for one subject, reading. Whew!

As a teacher, I intentionally balance reading comprehension/test prep with reading to learn and discovery so that my students can grow a genuine love of reading.

The Finding Evidence kits and other games would go into small group and center activities to motivate and engage students with reading comprehension through something they already love, games!

COVID-19 hit when my current group of third graders were mid-way through their kindergarten year and their reading progress really took a hit. Some of my learners are still trying to make up that lost progress and can easily get frustrated and overwhelmed with reading comprehension. These resources would go a long way to bringing engagement and excitement to my classroom.
