Gamified Economics

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn the concepts of Economics in a gamified setting by using The Settlers of Catan board game.

My Students

I currently see approximately 110 students everyday. This year, our school's theme is; BE... . We are allowing our students to complete that statement and yearning for them to grow in their belief of who they are, what they can become, and what we as a school can become.

All of my students have a desire for greatness, it might just take little more digging to find it in some.

My greatest desire as their teacher is to help them believe they can positively impact the world around them.

My Project

Economics can be a pretty boring topic for teenagers. Learning about Price Theory, Threat Point, Bargaining Theory, Trade, Positive-Sum Games, and Diversification (just to name a few) isn't really a huge hit with students. Yet, teenagers have never before had such a huge impact on the not only the national economy, but also the global economy.

What if we could bring all of those concepts to life?

Using The Settlers of Catan board game, we can do just that. Students can learn about the various concepts of a free market all while playing a game and building community with their classmates.
