Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Although we are a community school, our students come from all over Rochester. Many of them come from poverty stricken neighborhoods. We also have several English language learners.

Our school serves students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade and has a focus on STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

One hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are also a school with an extended learning day, which means our school day is an hour longer than a normal school day. The extended learning period gives restorative practices, builds relationships, and provides academic intervention.

My Project

I am asking for games for my students. We are an extended learning day which means we have an extra hour for enrichment at the end of the day. I would love to provide my students with games to practice essential skills in math.

Who doesn't love to learn through games?

Many of my students are hands-on learners or kinesthetic learners. Movement is helpful for learning new skills and practicing old ones. Math games can not only be used during enrichment, but they can be used as a station or center during the regular math class. Some of the games I am asking for are also great for intervention for some of my students who are struggling with more basic skills.
