My Students

My school is approaching 50 years of existence in our community. The area has a rich farming history. Generations of families have lived here.

The students come from many neighborhoods in the community to enroll in this school to learn Chinese as their second language.

For half of the day, my students are in Chinese class. Then they switch over to English class for the other half of the day where they are taught English Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies.

My Project

All of these resources requested will help students to continue their learning in light of COVID-19. As known, the pandemic has interrupted education over and over again. Because of this, many of the students I teach need additional support with the basic math facts, in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division when they arrive in 5th grade. With simple games using flashcards, students can learn all of their basic math facts and not know that they are being supported because they are having fun. When students have their own set of flashcards, there is ownership and pride. They feel they are important.

In addition to this, I support reading comprehension by using maps of the world and the country.

When maps are large enough that they can be seen across the room, students can understand where things are happening in relation to where they live in the text they read. This supports their ability to remember what they are reading.
