I believe that all students can learn and achieve success regardless of their ethnicity, cultural background, disability or educational level. Many of my students are identified as "at risk" and economically disadvantage. But, most importantly, my students are engaged in their own learning and success.
Teaching PE allows me to interact and engage with all students regardless of their skill level or disabilities and my students have a range of abilities from no activity to involvement in all sports.
Some of my students require assistance during PE instruction. For example, I have wheelchair bound students. I include activities that are adapted or modified to fit the students' needs and capabilities so they can participate and the get appropriate instruction.
Many of the students I teach speak little or no English. Therefore, I provide them visual cues, including vocabulary with an image to help them understand the words being used during the PE instruction. I model various skills and provide the with a partner so they can better understand and be fully engaged in the activity.
As part of my PE curriculum, the five components of physical fitness must be implemented throughout the year. Staying healthy begins with having an active lifestyle. I use cones everyday in PE class to work on agility, speed and coordination. But with large classes, I can never have enough cones.
These materials will help with setting up more activities that will allow my students to be more engaged.
For example, when using the drop-in cone crossbars, I can teach the students drills that will increase their agility and speed. The cones and beach balls can be used to teach team sports.
