My school is located in an urban environment and has almost 600 students in total. All our students qualify for, and receive, free breakfast, lunch and snack daily. They are all considered high needs and economically disadvantaged because they have limited resources at home.
Despite the hardships and obstacles they face daily, our students are still held to same high standards and learning expectations.
Unfortunately, many learners have gaps in their education due to their high mobility rate. Despite, they are 100% dedicated - attending school with an eagerness to learn every day with smiles on their faces.
My Project
My 2nd graders need fun games to practice phonics and grammar skills during small group instruction, so they can achieve reading fluency. My students have difficulty with letters and sounds; therefore, they need extra practice learning vowel sounds, rhyme, blends and diagraphs. They also need extra practice on learning sight words – high frequency, commonly-used words that are memorized and automatically recognized by sight - without using decoding strategies. These games would certainly help my students’ reading fluency because they are fun. They include matching pieces with a corresponding sound or rhyming word. The games are very user-friendly - they come with pieces with illustrations to assist beginning readers.
Game-based learning, a hands-on approach, promotes early literacy and yields academic success.
Fast-paced phonics and grammar games certainly improve fluency because matching is an effective way that assists in developing as well as improving not only reading skills but also language skills. Furthermore, the games are of good quality – composed of strong texture that will allow long-lasting classroom use. My literacy games project serves as critical tool for learning overall. Your donation will make a significant impact in my classroom.
