Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a class of 22 amazing second graders. They are loving, intelligent, kind, and funny. As of now, our school is closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was a sudden closure, where we didn't get to end off our time together in the classroom. I immediately learned how to teach remotely and began distance learning.
Distance learning is not ideal, but we are making the best of the current situation.
It has been difficult for me and my students. Our classroom is a happy place. My students come from diverse backgrounds, and many come from lower-income families. Many of my students come from challenging home environments and have limited resources at home. I also have English learners and students with special needs such as autism, ADD, and ADHD. Many of my students do not have basic supplies to help them succeed. The one thing they all have in common is that they are eager to learn. I would like to provide them with the educational resources they need during school closure.
My Project
The idea is to be able to give some of the families brand new board games that will educate and entertain the children while they are stuck at home.
Uno, Dog Man, Spider-Man, Checkers, and a variety of games teach social skills and also everything from colors to counting.
To keep the children learning and busy without them thinking it is boring or they are bored at home. You blessed them with these board games to help families that otherwise couldn't afford to get their children these items. You are truly paying it forward when you help the children.
