Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am requesting games and hands-on activities that my kindergarten students can play to learn and have fun. Games are more than just entertainment, they also help students to develop important skills that are necessary for academic achievement. Board games and hands-on activities provide so many opportunities for young children. I hope to foster a love for learning through play with the support of the items requested in this DonorsChoose project.
My students love opportunities to play and explore with board games and hands-on toys but we don't always have as many as we need for everyone to take part in the fun.
Board games teach valuable life skills. They require students to learn to take turns, think critically, and work cooperatively with others. Hands-on toys also help students develop fine motor skills, explore their creativity, and apply skills they have learned in the classroom. Games can also reinforce academic concepts like one-to-one correspondence, counting, and numeral and shape recognition.
I hope to allow my students more free unstructured time to explore hands-on activities and play games with one another to develop social-emotional skills and to use this time as an opportunity to decompress after working hard all day long on academic skills. The items requested are going to be incredibly beneficial to the development of my young and eager learners.
My goal is also to ignite an excitement for board games among my students. My students love to play using technology but I want them to realize that there is so much fun to be had without a device in their hands. Having the opportunity to have access to a wide variety of board games and hands-on activities, is sure to help them in this discovery. Please consider supporting my classroom with our project.
