My Project

I teach at a Title-1 school in Walkertown, NC. My students some from all walks of life, with many coming from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. At my school, I coach the academic league and also provide tutoring two days a week. I use games to engage my students in learning because middle grades students often need to move their bodies as much as they work at developing thinking skills.

I want to provide games and sports equipment in my classroom so my students have supplies that will help them develop their minds and bodies.

While they have physical education, it is often not enough to keep them active. I take my students outside for lunch, so having a selection of sports balls will give them something physical to do versus staring at cell phones. I also like to have board games to develop the social skills of all of my students, as well as use them to train my kids who are members of the academic league. Having all of these items in my room will open up many doors for socioemotional learning and team building.
