This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day but teach him how to fish and you will feed him for a life time." Being in a area where poverty is a way of life my students only know struggle, until they walk into my classroom. I don't want to give my students fish I want to teach them how to fish.
I have a class full of 25 eager and energetic students.
These students overcome adversity everyday when they simply walk through my classroom doors. It is here when they can let down their guards and live up to their full potential. Although in an impoverished area, I teach my students they do not have to be a product of their environment. My students know each time they walk through my classroom doors they will feel love. My classroom runs like a family. I expect everyone to treat each other with love and respect. To look out and help one another in need. My classroom is a place when barriers and walls can come down and my students can flourish because they know I only want them to be great. We learn lessons that go beyond standards. Lessons that are useful for growth through out life.
I have never seen such a caring and loving bunch of kids. They are always eager to please their teacher. It seems like pleasing me in return makes them happy.
My Project
I have a diverse classroom. Students with various emotional and learning needs. I have several students who are below grade level. The use of manipulative's, centers, and games give these students the hands on practice they need to succeed. I have a lot of students who are visual and kinetic learners. The use of these games and centers will allow me to pull small group to help struggling students. I can put students in smaller groups which will decrease off-task behaviors.
With the math centers students will be able to practice telling time to the hour and half hour with the practice clocks. They will be able to build on their addition facts with the decomposing numbers center and number line addition. Students will be able to identify 3d shapes, and practice place value with the math bingo.
I have students who are struggling with fluency and comprehension. Having more targeted activities will give them individual practice on their level and will help to improve their reading scores.
Given the neighborhood my students come from the odds are already against them.
Parents in this environment do not often have the skills or the tools to help their child succeed. Where most teachers have parental help at home. The only instruction my students get are in the classroom. The donation will help because the students are already at risk and below grade level. Most students being kinetic and visual learners it allow me to reach every students learning ability.
