This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with incredible students at a Title I school. Our school is one of the largest in the district, serving over 800 students ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households.
Knowing that many of our students have experienced significant challenges in their young lives, our school works hard to support our students in their social and emotional development.
I am lucky to be one of three school social workers, acting as counselors for our school. Together, we work hard to teach our students social and emotional skills in the classroom, through group work, and individually.
My Project
I am a huge believer in engaging students through books and games while teaching important social emotional learning topics.
These books and games will be used with students as we explore SEL topics such as emotions and emotional regulation, conflict resolution skills, and mindfulness.
The books I have listed either train ME to help students, or are picture books that introduce these different social-emotional learning concepts. The games are ones that I can easily structure SEL topic questions to be answered as they play along, keeping them engaged and having fun while learning these important concepts!
