Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I have decided to start an extracurricular club that can be used to help students be involved in something they enjoy. My school does not have a Tennis Team as the sport is too expensive for parents and students. However, starting a Tennis Club can be our first step in getting closer to attaining a Tennis Team. My students need a place to be active and healthy and a Tennis Club can help my students do just that.

I want my students to feel motivated and excited about learning how to play Tennis.

Tennis can really help students maintain focus and learn the qualities of team work not only on the court, but in their daily lives.

My Project

My students come from low-income households, where many times participating in a sport or extracurricular activity can be difficult or almost impossible. I learned to play tennis at around my students' age (10-14) and it honestly made a significant impact in my social and academic life. Playing a sport like tennis can help boost students confidence. It is a sport that requires hard work, stamina, and focus. In addition, there are tremendous health benefits from playing tennis. For instance, it can improve hand- eye coordination, problem solving, brain power, and can be a stress reducer.

Tennis can provide many students the opportunity to have fun, while still learning the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.

Students will be able to learn about a sport that can help them become healthier human beings. Tennis can be a very expensive sport, so allowing students with the opportunity to play and stay fit can be a rewarding experience for not only the students, but their parents as well. Tennis can teach students that it's perfectly okay to take chances and hit every ball (obstacle) that comes their way. This is why we are requesting tennis racquets, tennis bags, and a ballhopper cart.
