Our middle school is a Title I school with over 85% of its students receiving free or reduced lunch. Most of our students come from low-income households.
This area was recently devastated by the floods of Hurricane Harvey.
Many of my students have lost their homes and all their belongings. Our campus was damaged by flooding. We have students who are still displaced, and some just now getting back into their homes. During this difficult time, our students need things to look forward to at school.
With everything my students have gone through with Hurricane Harvey, they need a fun outlet. A select group of students who have shown their efforts reflect better choices, responsible behavior, and respectable attitudes will be allowed to play Xbox games during lunch to celebrate their grades, efforts, and/or good behavior. I would also like to include fun games during after school tutorials that reward students who stay after for tutoring and make up work. We have a hard time getting students to come to tutorials. By offering the opportunity to play video games as a reward, we hope this will motivate the students to come!
This project allows my students to be rewarded with fun activities and games.
This project includes a Xbox One gaming system and games included are Madden and Forza 3. These games are highly sought after, and my students will definitely come to tutorials for a chance to play them. The final two things are a TV and TV stand to conveniently roll to the needed classroom and a chart to transport games to the outdoor breezeway. This project will allow us to have celebrations of the students who always do the right thing in the classroom and throughout the school, and encourage others to do the same.
