The students in my classroom come from low income neighborhoods. They don't always have access to new playthings to use their imagination. Being in a classroom with new furnishings and toys can brighten their day. My students look forward to coming to school to explore and learn. My goal is to provide the tools which they need to do so.
I enjoy watching my students learn through play and interacting with each other.
They love to share their creations with everyone in the classroom.
My Project
Students in my classroom have plenty of opportunities during the day for Free Play (dress up, building with blocks, creating artistic masterpieces, digging in the sand table, etc). However, we are lacking board games for the older children who are ready for bigger challenges.
When playing these games, students will learn valuable lessons such as taking turns, following game progress and rules, plus cause and effect.
("What will happen when I do this?") Game playing requires many skills that I am hoping my students can perfect. By playing cooperatively with their peers, students can improve their social skills as well as counting and number and letter recognition.
