My Students
Our school is a Title I school in Orem, Utah. More than half of our students receive free and reduced lunches. Some of them are refugees, others are sent home with food on the weekends because they may not eat otherwise, and some are learning English for the first time.
Despite their difficulties, however, my students come to school every day excited to learn and improve.
My goal is to instill in each of my student a love of learning they can carry with them throughout their lives.
My Project
"Teachers and staff, please excuse the interruption, because of the rain today we will be having inside recess." My students groan, frustrated to be stuck inside, looking at the swings and grassy field rather than practicing their budding acrobatics and playing soccer. Being stuck inside for hours is not their idea of an ideal day.
Even with coloring pages and books, students lack the outlet that is recess, making it even more difficult for them to focus the rest of the afternoon.
However, with these games, students can have their minds and bodies engaged as they compete, solve problems, and socialize with one another. I hope to see them grow as a class family and a team with these options, as well as use these an enticing incentive. With your help, I can make this happen!
