Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Keller Elementary School is in the Las Vegas Valley. Our students are all on free lunch and are mostly Hispanic. Many our our students are learning English and some don't speak English. Our students struggled in many ways during the pandemic because they were unable to access the regular PE curriculum as they are when we are in school.
Our students would love the opportunity to make up the time they missed by getting physical again!
In order to make this happen I would love to update our much needed PE activities. Students have not been able to participate in our yearly field day because of online learning. This year our school would like to do something extra special!
My Project
It is a tradition in our school to celebrate a day in which students can practice the skills they have learned in their physical education classes. These skills include things such as teamwork, cooperation, good sportsmanship, and endurance. Our students have been learning online for a year and a half. They have not had the opportunity to practice group games together. This year I have been really working on reincorporating all these skills in their weekly lessons. At the end of the year I would like the chance to let them practice these skills we have learned in a schoolwide, teambuilding event which will include the whole student population, and adults, which we call field day!
