This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have learned very much in my first full year as an elementary school teacher. Social studies is still my one true love, but science has slowly crept and even overtook a close second. As I reflect on the ways of teaching that worked and didn’t work, my class is keeping peer-elected jobs, our current event writing prompts got us mentioned in the newspaper, and students looked forward to the half an hour a week that they chose what they learned about.
Contradictory elements can and should co-exist.
We build our community around this concept and most grownups don’t even understand it. We are all different but at the same time we are all the same.
My kids are kind-hearted, amazing individuals who always want to help people in need. In this year, they have come up with the idea of creating care packages for local homeless individuals. This year, we will start working on collecting items and partnering with a local nonprofit. These are the future leaders of my community, and I find myself very fortunate to be given the opportunity to teach these amazing contributors to society.
My Project
Every year, students get the opportunity to observe the moon. While observing the moon from a distance can be fun, an up-close view would be even better!
This September 13th is going to be the most amazing harvest moon.
What better way to observe the moon than with self-made Galileo telescopes? This telescope will allow students to observe some of the surface features of the moon.
Students will get to use tools and scientific techniques like professionals do! Your donation will allow students the opportunity to see the moon up close and with all its wondrous beauty.
As a two-part project, this is the student portion, which will make a great visual for a history lesson, an amazing STEM project in creating the telescope, and a fun instrument for the moon phases unit.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
