My Project

Our middle school has a vibrant South Asian population, with many students' families coming from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Afghanistan. Year after year, the Gale Ranch Library shows itself to have a strong student culture of reading, reflected in the high number of book checkouts. However, we need to fill in significant gaps in our collection with authors, characters, settings and stories that reflect the experiences of our diverse population.

Gale Ranch students & families deserve to have South Asian cultures promoted in the books and displays in our library.

The items on this list -- books by and about South Asians, and country flags for display in our library -- will provide avenues for positive self-image and community-building in our school.
