My Project

I teach self-contained special education at the high school level. Many of my students come to me struggling to learn foundational reading skills. With this donation, I will be able to teach my students phonemic awareness, phonics, phonetic analysis, fluency, and comprehension. By graduation, my students need to be self-sufficient and independent readers, so that can independently navigate everyday life as adults. In teaching them basic reading skills we are not only giving them the gift of independence but opening their imaginations, helping them gain knowledge and the love of reading. In my cart, I have also included money, fractions, and clocks to promote math skills and more independence.
