My students come from culturally diverse backgrounds and experience economical and cultural bias. The importance of cultivating and maintaining a positive learning environment, remote or in-person, is imperative. These young people are smart, caring, courageous special human beings who are brimming with potential to change the world. Please help us to expand student identity and reach their goals!
My Project
Students love graphic novels! These texts help students gain valuable reading skills they may not grasp as quickly through other genres. Graphic novels help to develop and reinforce reading skills such as inferencing, demonstrate punctuation and grammar rules, as well as explain figurative language.
In addition to strengthening these skills, Graphic Novels support scholars with learning differences.
For example, readers with autism can learn about emotions by the images on the page. Students with dyslexia can read a page or even a book without feeling too overwhelmed by the number of words on the page. Students with limited English experience can follow the story and observe grammar "rules" in action.
Please support these emerging, on-level and proficient readers continue to develop a love for reading!
