Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a true representation of what a diverse school should look like. We are located in a corner of Brooklyn, New York-where all paths of life connect. We have many ethnicities, different backgrounds, varied social statuses. Many of them are the first ones in their families to start planning beyond high school. Our students engage in challenging academic and social experiences that prepare them for college-level learning and full participation in civic life. We are part of NYC Outward Bound School and we use the EL Education model, which has its roots in Outward Bound.
My Project
After a whole year of relying heavily on technology, we have started to wonder... How does technology and pop culture affect us, positively or negatively? Should we trust technology? Can technology be and friend or a foe?
My co-teacher and I are planning a new unit and want our students to read some books that warns us about the excessive use of technology.
We want them to read sci-fi books that expose some of the uses and dangers of technology so they can form educated decisions about how to use it.
