Future Teachers' Club Fun with Dr. Seuss

Help me give my students Dr. Seuss books and costume pieces for an annual field trip to the local elementary school during Read Across America Week, so my high schoolers have fun teaching elementary students.

My Project

I am requesting Dr. Seuss books and costume pieces for an annual field trip to the local elementary school during Read Across America Week. My high school future teachers club students will benefit from these books and costume pieces as they navigate their career choices. Getting to work with young children gives them the opportunity to see firsthand if they should apply for an internship or major in education at the college level.

Last year, DHS's Future Teachers' Club had a blast reading Dr. Seuss's books and teaching a standards-based lesson to students at a local elementary school.

The high school students prepared lessons and were delighted to see the younger children light up with joy from their visit.

Unfortunately, the high school students were also tasked with providing books, costumes, and lesson materials. They threw together and borrowed what they could find. I spent money, as well. I would like to lighten the cost to them. The items purchased will be kept in storage bins in my classroom and reused every year. I am in my twelfth year of teaching, so I know these materials will have years and years of use.
