Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students crave hands on learning to motivate them to learn about topics in science. Science is infused into our daily curriculum but my students lack the resources to let them experiment freely.
I teach a bunch of energetic 7 and 8 year old students in the northern Bronx.
They come from various socioeconomic backgrounds but most students receive free or reduced lunch. My school is a public school that is broken up into 4 academies. Our academy focuses on integrating science and literacy together to help students become better problem solvers. My students are always looking to get their hands dirty and get their minds wrapped around a new science concept but due to a lack of funding, we don't have access to all of the materials that we would like to ideally have!
My Project
My students will use these materials to help conduct experiments involving plants, rocks and soil, and forces and motion. Students will get to work with their science partners to learn about the world around them using the scientific method. They will use science tools such as magnifying glasses, magnets, and balances to help them understand the big picture of what science is all about!
This project will make a huge difference in my classroom!
The kids will be more motivated to learn using these tools and materials and they will see how fun science can be. They will become more aware of the world around them and science time will be way more engaging! I can't wait to see their faces if this project gets funded.
