My students come to school each day to a warm, caring community of teachers and schoolmates. This is an environment where my students work hard, have fun, set goals, and feel proud of their daily accomplishments.
My students are curious.
They are engaged, resilient and flexible learners who are excited to learn and practice new skills each day.
Our school is amazing because of our students. My students bring the classrooms to life with their enthusiasm and curiosity. A supportive community helps them thrive and reach for their dreams.
These books will continue to enhance the differentiated, engaged, STEM enhanced classroom that I strive to create. I teach a research based nonfiction reading unit including topics of extreme weather. I hope to create reading sets in the topics of drought, floods, blizzards, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, and climate change. Students will choose two topics to research and will ask questions, compare and contrast, and determine problems and solutions.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose books that will allow them to research, engage in, and understand extreme weather topics of their choice independently.
These books, at different reading levels, will allow me to provide more choice to students on topics. With more choice, students will feel successful, curious and engaged.
This is a unit that, with vivid and differentiated books, will spark the inner scientists that live inside my 4th graders.
