Having a quality document camera in my classroom will allow students to interact with each other in countless new and exciting ways. The camera sits on a table and is easily connected to the projector. Aim the document camera at the table and a live image appears on the large screen at the front of the room, learning in real time! Since the majority of students benefit from visual tools, this would be a critical component of my classroom. Learning comes alive in real time with a document camera! This special visual presenter can be used as an effective teaching and learning tool in all subject area. Demonstrate a challenging math concept with manipulatives that everyone can actually see. Zoom in on maps to get a closer look. Invite students to share their work under the camera promoting the critical work of explaining mathematical reasoning. Have a student walk their classmates through tricky math problems. Record the mini-lesson to post on the classroom website as homework help. Model the revision process on a writing piece. Promote dialogue through shared texts and math problems. Closely examine primary documents in Social Studies and study specimens and reactions in Science. Model note-taking skills. Read a book together, promoting comprehension, accuracy, and fluency. Take a picture or video of student work under the camera and share with parents. Demonstrate how to use a calculator or other new technology. I'm so excited just thinking about all the possibilities for my students to have a more engaging and interactive experience in my classroom!
