Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students just turned three years old. I am piloting a three-year-old half-day program in an inner-city low-income school.
The children are excited and ready to learn.
Most of the students I serve are English language learners and will be in a bilingual program.
The mission of this program is to teach children English and sustain their Spanish speaking skills. By starting early, this will give them a head start on their educational journey. This will enable them to have many opportunities in their futures, but also facilitate educational success.
My Project
My three-year-old students in a variety of painting tools, paint, and paint accessories for the easel center. The roll on painters, the variety of brushes, and explorer rollers will help strengthen their hand muscles and upper arms and will give them opportunities to be creative.
By painting with a variety of materials the students will have an opportunity to develop their social-emotional awareness and enhance their fine motor skills.
Having the opportunity to paint gives the students many opportunities to express themselves in non-verbal ways.
Many of my students' only opportunity for an arts education is through the exposure they receive in school. Since they are part of the three-year-old program, I am self-contained and am their art teacher as well.
The easel is usually what little ones are drawn to because they can paint and be creative on their own. They can explore and express themselves without feeling pressure or stifled because of what their peers may be doing.
The opportunity to have fun colored paints, different textured brushes and rollers will provide a creative outlet for them. It will also help develop the whole child which is imperative for future school success.
