This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am the coach for our school's Mock Trial Team. Mock Trial is a competition where students simulate a court case. They are able to get experience in the court system and many students go on to have careers in law and law enforcement. In my county, there is a program for middle school, which we participate in. Since my community is economically disadvantaged, my students lack clothing and organizational materials to be competitive against the more economically advantaged teams.

A clothing rack to store and transport our thrifted business attire, as well as new binders and organizational materials will help us to fit in with our competitors and give us the confidence to compete at the highest level!

We have been fortunate to be able to find some great clothing at thrift stores and from donations, yet we need to transport the clothing to competitions and then store it for future use. The clothing rack with the cover will allow us to do this.

Additionally, we need binders and organizational materials to be competitive against the teams who have all of these supplies. This will also give the students a chance to see the value of organization in a professional setting.

Simply put, I want my students to have a fighting chance in competitions against schools who have so much more than we do. Mock Trial is an amazing program that helps students develop useful knowledge about the law, questioning techniques, critical thinking, and public speaking skills. It also helps with self-esteem and self-advocacy- all valuable skills for the future!
