Future Engineers Need Stem Materials

My Students

I teach an Integrated Co-Teaching 2nd grade class. My class is full of diverse learners with different interests and abilities. My Co-teacher and I strive every day to make sure we give our students an incredible education with the materials we have.

My school's area was completely destroyed by Hurricane Sandy a few years ago.

We are still rebuilding. Some families lost everything in the storm.

My students don't have much at home so new books would mean the world to them. I have seen my students make incredible gains already this school year. I can't wait to see their faces when we unwrap new materials for the classroom.

My Project

Studies reveal that students have more success learning STEM subjects through activities that are related to the real world rather than through reading about abstract concepts in textbooks. With these materials my students will be able to learn science, engineering and math concepts through hands on exploration. These materials will be an invaluable resource to my students who have never had access to this sort of hands on learning. Kids are naturally curious and these materials will help them understand all sorts of new concepts without even realizing that they are learning. I hope to inspire my students to become future architects and engineers.
