Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students just turned three years old. I am piloting a three-year-old half-day program in an inner-city low-income school.
The children are excited and ready to learn.
Most of the students I serve are English Language Learners and will be in a bilingual program.
The mission of this program is to teach children English and sustain their Spanish speaking skills. Starting early will give them a head start on their educational journey. This will enable them to have many opportunities in their futures, but also facilitate educational success.
My Project
My three year old students need a mini piano, drums, rainmakers, and other instruments for our new music center.
Music is proven to help children express their creativity and develop their brain.
Music develops parts of the brain that enhances language acquisition. This is imperative especially for my students who are second language learners.
Playing and exploring with musical instruments also helps with mathematical learning. All of these areas are important, but playing music will also help my preschoolers with social emotional learning and social interaction with their peers.
Dancing and playing music will help my students learn how the body and mind work together!
