My Students
Writing is hard. Writing in a language other than your native language is even harder. As my students have begun to excel in their reading abilities, I have noticed that their writing comes at a much slower pace. My students need reinforcement activities for grammar and story building.
My students are awesome!
Our school was established by a charter designed to meet the language and academic content needs of a diverse group of students, while focusing on appreciation for culture and community. They come from many diverse backgrounds. Almost all are English Language Learners. Many are either refugees from Somalia or the Middle East or they are 1st generation Americans. Our school is located in a very high poverty region of a major city.
My Project
Since English is my students second language, they need a variety of activities to reinforce grammar skills during writer's workshop. I am requesting Contractions Instant Learning Center because it will provide my students with hands on access to fun activities to enhance their understanding of English grammar.
Build-A-Sentence literacy center is a great way to help students create sentences and allows them to build more complex sentences using descriptive words as they advance. Build-A-Story Flip Book is an excellent source of prompts that will inspire coherency and creativity and encourage high order thinking skills in their writing.
These items will bring my students the skills and the confidence they need to excel in writing.
Writing is a powerful form of expression and all students should have access to its brilliance.
