My students need a portable desktop scanner to be able to scan in their artwork, photos or writings. With my help, these little authors and illustrators will be able to create their very own books.
Most of my students are children of low income families, ELL students or students on IEP's. They don't let their struggles define them. Even though many are struggling readers, they are very passionate about learning. They are becoming great writers and work so hard to do their best. I strive to boost their confidence everyday and encourage them to be creative. They love working on writing activities and directed drawings. When they are able to actively participate on a project, they become more engaged. We're always doing hands on projects and use various types of technology often.
My Project
My students need opportunities to see their own greatness. By having the ability to scan in their work and compile it into a book that they actually wrote and illustrated, they will see their potential to become an author or illustrator. By using the scanner, I'll be able to upload their work onto the computer, then be able to print and bind their work. My students will be able to draw steps related to scientific observations, such as how a seed changes into a plant. After documenting and illustrating their observations, I will scan in their written and illustrated items so they can create a science sequencing book. I will also have them illustrate coins and write word problems using the amounts, so that they can be scanned in to create math books, as well. I will also be able to upload their work onto an iPad so they can create an iMovie using their own writings and illustrations. Reading is such an important skill to learn. This project will be a fun and engaging method to help them build confidence in themselves. This will also be a great way for them to share their creations with others.
