I teach 24 eager, active, and inquisitive 3rd graders. My students come from homes where parents have more than one job. The majority come from single parent family homes, and some even share their homes with relatives.
I teach at a Title I school where all children receive free lunch.
My students are always eager to learn, despite the fact that they have limited resources at home. All my students are English language learners. They face many challenges in school and outside of school. Some even have to deal with the fact that they have several learning disabilities.
When my students come into my classroom, I want them to feel successful. Whenever I can, and with the limited resources that I have available for them, I try to provide them with as many hands-on experiences as possible.
Many of my students struggle in reading. However, when it comes to art they are very creative and enjoy it very much. Research shows that exposure to art helps students improve in other subjects like reading, math, and social studies. Student learning in the arts is connected to academic and social benefits. Art helps children become more creative and express themselves better.
Art helps children learn that hard work and perseverance are important.
Incorporating more art in the classroom will help my students with their attention and focus. Some of my children are still working on their motor skills and painting will definitely help them improve those skills. Using art for other subjects, also helps engage students.
Art supplies like paint, paper, and clay will help our classroom very much. We have a limited supply of art supplies in our school, so the majority of the time I have buy the art supplies myself. With your help, I can continue to provide my students with the art lessons that they enjoy so much.
