My third graders are smart, inquisitive, and active students. The student population at my school is a mix of students from all walks of life, all ethnicities, all socio-economic statuses, and a wide vareity of professions. We are a true representation of the melting pot that is the United States.
These amazing students are budding scientists, engineers, artists, mathematicians, and researchers in the making.
Given the right environment and resources they will show the world what they are made of!
My Project
Having a classroom pet encourages empthany, compassion, respect, and responsiblity for another life. By having pets in the classroom students learn these skills and can then apply them to their daily life.
I am requesting 2 fish tanks and the necessary supplies to take care of two new Betta fish for our classroom.
By having a classroom pet, students are not only using this opportuity to learn socio-emotional and leadership skills, but also academic skills. In the fall students will be completing research projects about Betta Fish and will be presenting the research to their classmates. We will also use this opportunity for hands on science lessons about life cycles and animal habitats. This allows them to be intrinsicly motivated about what they are learning.
According to research done by the American Humane Association, classrooms that have a pet have shown an increased academic performance as well as a decrease in behavior problems. By funding this project you are ensuring a well rounded education for some amazing 3rd grade students!
