My students are 11th-12th graders that attend a Title I inner-city visual and performing arts school with an emphasis on Advanced Placement and the International Baccalaureate Program. Our school is a competitive one and students must provide a portfolio, audition, etc., in order to be accepted. On the academic end, our IB students must complete rigorous course work, as well as complete analytical portfolio work.
Students are surrounded by science, literature, history, foreign language, music, art, poetry, film and drama and use these as a catalyst for learning in their core classes.
They are creative, smart kids that come from a variety of backgrounds, looking for a challenge and a zest for excitement in their learning, along with a need to view the unique experiences of life through International Baccalaureate lens.
Students have missed so much during these last few years of the Covid - 19 pandemic. From virtual learning, to socially distanced learning in the classroom, it has proved difficult for my students to really dive in to learning about film production and adapt to going back and forth between a virtual learning environment and an in class environment.
Now that we are back in the classroom and can work more collaboratively, we need some equipment for these future filmmakers!
With your help, they will have the option to use new cameras, lenses, and other technology to change their own cell phones into professional looking film cameras.
They can even take this technology home to work on productions outside of class. This will also help them to learn the complexities of individual film roles and working collaboratively with a team. Even through the pandemic, they have remained enthusiastic filmmakers and I believe this will help to give them a much needed boost! Thank you!
