Do you remember being in first grade and learning to read your first book? For my first grade students, being able to read a simple word is exciting for them. Help my students be fluent in their phonics and sight words.
The students in my classroom look forward to coming to school and learning new and exciting things every day.
For a lot of students in the classroom, I am the one thing they know they will see on a day to day basis and I am a constant fixture in their lives. My students come from families that don't know where their next meal might be, they may be living with a family member or they are taking care of siblings while their parents work the third shift. Many of my students come from households that speak a language other than English and attend a Title I school where the budget gets cut more and more affecting the education they are receiving.
My Project
Phonics begins at an early age, and in a first-grade classroom, a phonics program that provides structure and enrichment is key to have a successful way to learn how to read.
In any classroom, the use of visuals to help enhance what the students are learning is crucial.
The posters will allow my students to have a concrete understanding of how sounds, and how words are said. The student magnets will allow my students to physically move around sounds to understand the phonics skills being taught. The workbooks will allow the students to have a different way to learn the phonics skill being taught.
