This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Hello! I'm an eighth-grade student. In eighth grade, we identify a community that needs help and find a way to make a long-lasting effect on that community. For my community project, I focused on something that impacts all students' education: the library. The library is a safe space for every student to come to, whether for academics or to take a moment to relax.

Lots of students go up to the library, but as fun as it is, it's lacking some resources that students would like that can really make a difference in students' creativity and comfort.

Kids are very creative, and the library is a good place where they can show this. The library has fun things such as Tech Tuesday when a teacher teaches you something cool that you can do with your computer that not many people know. There's also crocheting and bracelet making. Many students come up and use the library which is why it's so important to the school.

I reached out to some kids that use the library in all grades, and they told me things that could add to the experience in the library. Some eighth graders said that they needed more books, including more on-trend romance books. A sixth grader wanted blankets. There were also people who liked the idea of having a LEGO wall. In the makerspace, which is where kids get together to create, someone wanted more materials to explore with. A seventh grader said she wanted more comfy places to read in the library, especially in the quiet room. All grades want more games, and some even said they would love to have LEGO sets.
