This is a group of 6th-8th grade students at our middle school. The students that are in this club are outgoing, driven, hard working, inspiring, determined and future leaders of our country! These kids have all these attributes regardless of the fact that majority of these young individuals come from very little. These young middle school kids are so impressive and make a difference not only in the school but the community as well. These students fight the socioeconomic norm and are going to be bright lights in their future endeavors.
Our school is in a low income area. To promote leadership skills and qualities our club T.E.A.M. was developed. This club helps make a better student and better athlete. This club uses a variation of team building, community service projects and speakers to help teach these students life skills. The students are kids within the school that are some of the most hard working, determined, and dedicated kids our middle school has to offer!
In Their Own Words
The goal of the project is to raise money for our club. The meetings are typically held in the morning. Many of our students eat breakfast at school. The money raised will go to helping get the food/drink/snacks needed to feed these children at each of our meetings that we have.
Our club is designed to promote leadership. We will use the money and supplies given to make sure that these students can reach their full potential at each meeting. Part of the money raised will go to food(chips, water, cereal, hot chocolate and breakfast bars) , several of these students only way to eat breakfast is at school and we would like to make sure they have the opportunity to be fed and get to come to our meetings. Another thing thing money raised will go to is special guest speakers. We like to get athletes past and present to come talk to the kids about leadership. And finally, the money raised will go to our community service projects. We have done toy drives,spirit weeks and nursing home visits. This means we will need money for buses and supplies for each event. With the money raised with this project all of those things can be made possible!
This club was something that I wanted to create because I saw the lack of leadership that our school's students and athletes possessed. I along with a few other colleagues wanted to be the positive role models for these kids and show them that just being a student athlete isn't enough. They need to want to go above and beyond, in the classroom and on the field. With the money and supplies gained through this project, we will be able to fulfill our goal even further by being able to feed the kids, get great speakers to come talk and take the gets to do community service projects.
