My Students

My students are truly exceptional! They work hard to succeed. They persevere when faced with a challenge, creatively inspire our community, and believe in one another. They are tomorrow's leaders and world-changers. They are our future and together we can help them reach their dreams. A full 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. They come to our Title I school every day where resources are very limited. Some of our students are unable to purchase supplies, and the school is only able to do so much with the budget they have. Our students strive to do their best!

My students are energetic, smart, and motivated to succeed.

Even though they come from a variety of backgrounds, including race, religion, academic levels, and family structure, we all work together to create a unique learning experience, instilling a love of learning and exploring that will last a lifetime. Many of my students' parents work multiple jobs and are unable to attend school events; therefore, parents are missing out on their students' successes. Teaching students about healthy eating and how to grow their own food is a life lesson that will last for years.

My Project

We would like to replace our garden beds. The soil continues to run through the big gaps that are between the rocks. We will work together as a community of eight classrooms (275 students) to turn the back of our school into a sustainable vegetable and habitat garden.

Using teamwork, we will brainstorm, research, propose, design and execute our plans for turning our school into a bountiful, beautiful place to learn, while also inviting parents to join in on our STEM project.

Students will, quite literally, "dig in" and be part of each step along the way, from researching winter crops, writing and presenting proposals and measuring and graphing our garden spaces, to filling beds with soil, planting seeds, labeling crops and following through with all of the daily maintenance that a garden need. We have an area with three old, pre-existing raised beds that need to be replaced. The weed barrier will assist with the maintenance of the beds. We have no other supplies yet to help us begin or sustain this STEM project.

This new and improved garden will help us to continue to provide healthy vegetables for us to enjoy and donate to those in need, but more importantly it will be an engaging process through which our students and families will learn teamwork, perseverance, experiential learning of grade-level standards, and the rewarding benefits of hard work that come from following through with a long-term plan. Thank you for considering helping us with our project goals!
