My students need the items listed in order to help aid them in their functional curriculum, as well as give them a comfortable sensory/calming break when needed.
This classroom serves as a specialized program for students with moderate to severe Autism. The curriculum is focused on functional academics and daily life skills that help them work towards becoming more independent in their daily lives to promote a better quality of life. My students are exceptional individuals that just need a little extra help and support to meet their needs in order to learn. By helping to further develop my classroom to meet functional needs, my students will not only be able to have a stronger focus to learn, but also be happier, healthier, and stronger!
My Project
For this classroom, the students are learning how to become more independent through a functional curriculum. Specifically, the students have their own garden that they currently maintain and grow crops for their cooking curriculum. The cookware provided by this project will help them to expand their skill sets and help them to become more independent in their abilities to prep their own meals. Many of the students in this classroom also require extensive sensory and calming breaks in order to complete their daily routines. The fold-able chairs will help to provide them a comfortable space to take their breaks and focus on their daily activities. Lastly, students with Autism are very visual learners and so the students are working on producing their own life skills videos to help model step by step tasks. The lighting and sound equipment will help our students to produce those videos, that will essentially help them to better learn the curriculum and model tasks for their peers. By funding this project, you will significantly increase the students ability to fully participate in their functional life skills curriculum, which in turn will help them to become more independent and have a better overall quality of life.
