Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in an I.C.T. classroom in the Bronx. In this classroom setting both general education students and special education students learn together and from each other. Many of my students have learning disabilities or speech and language impairments.

My students are faced with hardships everyday; yet, they come to school eager to learn.

Despite obstacles put in their way, my students strive to reach their potential. School is their safe haven where I strive to provide them with all the knowledge I can with the resources that are available to me.

My Project

My students will greatly benefit from making our library more functional and flexible. Right now we have old larger library bins that are breaking. The non-fiction and fiction books are mixed together by levels. This makes it harder for a first grader who is just learning about the different genres to choose the correct genre. Having smaller library bins will enable me to separate the books by fiction and non-fiction. This will greatly help little readers when we read in different units throughout the year.

Flexible seating is a must in a special needs classroom.

Having lap desks and wobble cushions will enable my students to have a choice when it comes to working. These options will improve their attention span and the work that they produce.
