Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach at an urban elementary school in Connecticut, which consists of Pre-K through 8th grades. My school is a Title I public school where most of the families are low income. My school is a great school where there is a focus on giving all students the opportunity to learn in a variety of ways.

My students are an awesome group of students who are ready and excited to learn every day!

My students are in fourth through eighth grade self-contained class setting that focuses on students with medical needs and various disabilities. Despite their challenges, they are eager to learn and deserve every opportunity to do so. I am very fortunate to be able to teach these students who strive to achieve in every way.

My students struggle with basic fine motor skills. They need to be given the opportunity to explore and build these skills in a fun and exciting way. Puzzles are one way to help the students build their fine motor skills. Having different options such as the Big Knob Puzzles and the Lakeshore Puzzle library will help the students strengthen their skills. The puzzles will also help build their vocabulary, such as learning animal names, colors, fruits, and nursery rhymes. All of these manipulatives will allow the children not only to learn and practice skills but work independently which will build their self-esteem.
