Fun with Physical Science: Circuits, Magnets and Light exploration
My students need copper tape, LED diodes, and Lithium batteries to build circuits. They also need magnetism and light kits to further explore physical science.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at an all-boys, 6-12, public school in the Bronx. My students are energetic, enthusiastic and curious about the world around them. The school is located in an "inner-city" neighborhood and the kids face a lot of challenges in their daily lives. Despite facing many obstacles, they strive to do their best for themselves, their school and their families. The dedicated staff at my school is trying their best to nurture young men of integrity who will one day become leaders that make a positive impact in their local and global communities.
My Project
I take pride in the fact that I am a lifelong learner and am always looking to try new things in my classroom. I realized that my units on circuits, magnetism and light could really use some work.
These hands on materials will help make physical science come to life!
I would like my students to learn about circuits by building paper ones themselves. In order to do this in a fun, creative way, we need access to copper tape and LED lights, batteries, diffraction glasses, and freezer bags. The concepts of circuits, magnetism and light waves should not be learned from a textbook. These materials would help my classroom become more engaging and exciting!
