Fun With Phonics!

Help me give my students the gift of magnetic letters to help them learn to blend words together.

My Students

My school is a Title I school with many challenging characteristics which include high mobility rate, attendance issues, limited parental support and 76% of the students receiving free and reduced lunches. Many of the students are being raised in single parent households, by grandparents or other family members. In addition, there is an above average incarceration rate at our school.

My Project

Using the magnetic white boards and magnetic letters is something we will use daily. Having the students be able to move and manipulate the letters to create words is crucial in learning to read. Blending sounds together to form words is always difficult Having the ability to move each letter and create sounds that then form words is something that will help my students with their reading. Word Building Blocks and Snap and Build Phonics will also allow them to "feel" the words they are building. COVID took many learning days from our students last year, and crucial learning was lost. These games will allow the students to go back to the beginning of their learning and fill in the holes they have that is making it difficult for them to become fluid readers.
