Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Pennies, Nickels, Dimes and Quarters! Financial literacy is essential for students of all ages, especially for my students in the 2nd grade.

My classroom consists of 20 energetic and eager 2nd graders that love school.

The majority of my students are from low-income families and receive free or reduced lunch. My students love working in cooperative groups and participating in hands-on activities.

My Project

My students will use the materials in many different ways to help them learn about financial literacy. The pocket chart holder and pocket chart display will be used to display financial literacy vocabulary terms and for sorts like wants and needs. The easel would be used along with the chart paper to make anchor charts to display the economics unit key ideas and themes around the classroom for constant reminders and references. The books on economics will be used to introduce the unit and for students to read on their own. This will spark their interest in financial literacy and help develop reading skills. Finally, the white boards, dry-erase pocket protectors, and place value pocket chart will be used during small group social studies instruction for counting money, sorting consumers, producers and resources, and reading about economics. The organizer will be used to store all of the materials used in the economics unit so that students can easily access them during station time.

By donating to my classroom you will help my students become more financially aware at a young age.

This will benefit them for years to come, as they experience things in their everyday lives. As they become producers and consumers, they will be more equipped to handle and make good financial choices.
