Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
LMS students are respectful, hardworking, and always ready to learn. Most of my students come from a Latina background. They are all very special because they have unique characteristics such as being migrant and English language learners. My role is to be the social-emotional counselor; I support students and their families to have a safe and pleasant time at the school. I support students who are struggling academically due to family issues, substance and alcohol abuse, financial limitations, language barriers, and struggling with their mental health.
My role is an amazing role because I have the opportunity to help students and their families when they need it the most.
It is part of my cultura to help familias.
My Project
My students will greatly benefit from all of these resources by having fun and also being exposed to different coping skills so that they can be ready to learn! These social-emotional games, tools, and journals will help me break the stigma of receiving mental health services. I want to make mental health fun and interactive because most of the times students are sent to see the counselor when the students did something wrong. I will create a safe space not just for the student but also for their families.
My passion is to make mental health as accessible as possible especially in communities where Latinas are the majority.
As a Latina myself, it is my duty to help my fellow Latinas.
