Fun in Science, Art, and Math

My Students

My 3rd-grade class is comprised of 21 unique students. Many are ELL, reading below a first grade level, or have minimal number sense. They are a group of thoughtful, helpful and caring students. I know with the right support they can all reach their greatest potential because I can see the motivation in them.

The pandemic has made it difficult for my third graders to close the learning gap.

They have never experienced a full year of normal school. When they were in kindergarten it was only half day, in first grade they missed a whole term when school went to soft closure, and in second grade we started with students coming in person every other day and all Fridays being remote. This year is there first normal year so far. We need all the help we can get. Our school faculty and staff are amazing and work vigorously to close this achievement gap.

With the help of our community and all the generous donors out there, together we can and will make a difference in these students' lives.

My Project

I love to paint and want to teach my students how painting can help me calm down and relax after a hard day. I want to be able to teach my students some acrylic painting techniques with the materials requested.

I also requested materials to do some hands-on science investigations like growing our own plants to investigate plants' life cycles, building balloon cars to learn about force and motion, and a weather station to help us find patterns in our weather throughout the school year.

With Covid-19 and students having to quarantine or spend lots of time at home, I wanted to put together a math game kit with materials for students to use to play math games with their family members to practice basic facts.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
